HUGGY BEAR

Huggy Bear was an English riot grrrl band, formed in 1991 in Brighton, England. Rising up in tandem with the Olympia, Washington-based riot grrl movement led by feminist bands like Bikini Kill, Huggy Bear called themselves "boy/girl revolutionaries," both in reference to their political philosophy and the gender makeup of their band. Below are a few of their albums and 7 inches. "Taking The Rough With The Smooch" LP is one of my personal favorites but all of their releases are worth a listen.

  6. I have always been a huge fan of the riot grrl movement, but I have no reason why. I dunno I still listen to all the seattle riot grrl bands, so I am gonna give this a try.

You are a superb human being for making this material accessible. Earlier in the month my apartment burnt down and I lost everything, the one thing I miss the most is my copy of Taking the Rough with the Smooch, something I thought I could never replace. Thank You! I do have a question regarding the Shimmies 7-inch, there is a duplicate copy of Snow White Rose Red, which won't play, but what happened to more music from the bells?

zillions of comments about these and here's another. All my records were ruined in a flood and now, thanks to you my friend, I have some of the best digitally. Now if I could only find the old "courtney love" (THE BAND NOT THE WOMAN) seven inches, my pubescent memories would be permanently stored.

So when I first heard of Huggy Bear, the only songs I could find by them was "blow dry" and "no sleep" - I ALWAYS wanted to hear the full albums and you have made my day, for real yo.
